The first few years of the transportation business consisted of hauling canned goods and produce from Northern California to the Southern California market. In 1946, Dart expanded its delivery service into the retail industry, hauling mail orders and general merchandise.
Dart International was founded in 1938 by Rod Dedeaux, after a highly successful academic and athletic career at the University of Southern California. The first few years of the transportation business consisted of hauling canned goods and produce from Northern California to the Southern California market.
In 1946, Dart expanded its delivery service into the retail industry, hauling mail orders and general merchandise for a major retailer to Northern California points. The business continued to grow and, in 1953, Dart was forced to move to a new facility in Vernon, California which provided the needed room to handle the expanding business.
